Managing Convert and Insert

Publishers can access their Settings at https://publishers.viglink.com/publisher/settingsNote that changes to your Settings can take up to 24 hours to take full effect.

Convert

Convert's main function is to scan your content and automatically turn any existing merchant links into affiliate links. The core feature cannot be turned off from the panel; if the Javascript is installed on your site, Convert will run.

Reaffiliate Affiliated Links

If you have existing affiliate links on your site, you may want Sovrn //Commerce to overwrite them or bypass them. To overwrite the links, make sure this box is checked. To make sure Sovrn //Commerce bypasses them, make sure this box is unchecked.

Link URLs

By default, Convert will only automatically affiliate existing hyperlinks. If you also want Convert to turn plain text URLs into affiliate links, check this box.

Optimize Links

The Optimize Links feature will allow Sovrn //Commerce to transform links into affiliate links for a different merchant that is carrying the exact same product. Sovrn //Commerce will optimize the merchant in cases where one merchant is paying a higher commission rate or where the publisher is not approved to work with the original merchant.

Advanced: Link Target

Decide whether you want users to be directed to the merchant page in the current window or a new window. We recommend that you select "New window," which offers a better user experience.

Insert

Screen_Shot_2018-10-22_at_11.48.31_AM.png

When activated, Insert will scan a publisher's content looking for merchant or product keywords and automatically inserting an affiliate link into the keyword.

To tone Insert down, click the slider and drag it to the left. To disable Insert entirely, click the toggle button on the top right of the panel. (It will make no difference where the slider is positioned.) Remember that changes to your settings can take 24 hours to take effect.

Insert is currently only able to read English.

Advanced: Link Target

Decide whether you want users to be directed to the merchant page in the current window or a new window. We recommend that you select "New window," which offers a better user experience.

Advanced: Allowed Devices

If you only want links to be inserted on certain device types, you can customize that here by unselecting the appropriate box.

Sovrn //Commerce, formerly VigLink, gives you the ability to exclude phrases, destinations, and pages on your site from Insert.

Utilizing Insert Exclusions

To utilize Insert controls, visit https://publishers.viglink.com/publisher/insert/exclusions and click the orange "ADD EXCLUSION" button. If you are unable to access this page, email support@viglink.com to request that Insert Exclusions be enabled on your account.

These controls give you the ability to:

  • Exclude phrases that you do not want to be linked within your content. (e.g., do not link the word “knife” in my content)
  • Exclude merchants you prefer not to send traffic to. (e.g., do not send any of my links to example.com)
  • Designate pages or even sections of your website that should not have links inserted on them. (e.g., do not insert links on a specific blog post, such as a sponsored post)

To turn on Insert, visit https://publishers.viglink.com/publisher/settings and click the toggle button in the top right corner of the Insert panel. Publishers who run Insert often see their revenue double, so we’re excited to see the wider adoption of Insert with these controls.

How can I prevent Convert, Insert, or Optimize from working on certain parts of my site?

Sometimes it’s useful to configure the JavaScript Library differently for a certain page on your site, or even for just part of a page. For example, you might have  Insert enabled on your site, but have an area where links should never be inserted. Sovrn //Commerce's behavior can be configured by adding certain labels (called CSS “classes”) to your site’s HTML.

CLASSES

norewrite

When Convert is enabled (on by default), norewrite can be used to ensure links are never converted on specific parts of a page.

nooptimize

If "Optimize Links" is enabled, use nooptimize to ensure certain links are never optimized.

nolinks

When Insert is enabled in your settings, nolinks can be used to ensure links are never added to specific parts of a page.

To ensure that Convert and Insert are both disabled, please use both nolinks and norewrite in the class.

EXAMPLES

To prevent a single link from being monetized:

<a href="http://example.com" class="norewrite">VigLink ignores this</a>

To prevent multiple links from being monetized:

 <div class="norewrite">
None of these links will be monetized by VigLink. Not
<a href="http://example.com/1">this one</a>, or
even <a href="http://example.com/2">that one</a>.</div>

To prevent link insertion in part of the page:

 <div class="nolinks">
My Nikon D7000 is amazing! VigLink will not insert a link on the text Nikon D7000.</div>

These classes can be used anywhere in your HTML and affect everything below. That means an entire page can be configured by adding one to the tag:

</header>
<body class="nolinks">
<div>Everything within the body will have no links inserted by VigLink Insert.
<p>Even child elements won't have anything inserted on product mentions like Nikon D7000</p>
</div>
</body>

If your HTML already has another class where you’d like to use one of ours, just add a space between them. They’ll both work as expected:

<div class="myclass nolinks">
My Nikon D7000 is amazing! VigLink will not insert a link on the text Nikon D7000.</div>
