Tracking specific users or links with CUID

While our Dashboard is very useful for getting all the metrics you need to see revenue, clicks, sales and page views, there isn’t way to track specific products, members(from your site), links or specific marketing campaigns.

If you’re looking for a way to identify the page the link is on, the campaign, or the click itself, Sovrn //Commerce will recognize a specific parameter labeled “cuid”. Once applied to the end of our links, you’ll be able to track that “cuid” from our Transaction Reporting API.

There are a few ways to apply the “cuid” parameter to our links; Javascript, Anywhere, or our click and link monetization APIs.

Before we get to the examples of each method, there are some simple rules. “cuid” can be up to 32-alphanumeric characters long -- no special characters(! ? % *,  . [ ], etc.). That’s it!

You’ll also want to keep track of the “cuid” you use on your end for your own reference.

Javascript:

If you’re looking to apply a “cuid” to all links on your site or specific pages, just add a “cuid: ‘yourowncuid’ below your API key. It should look something like this:

<script type="text/javascript">
   var vglnk = { key: 'yourapikey',
   cuid: ‘yourowncuid’
};
   (function(d, t) {
       var s = d.createElement(t);
           s.type = 'text/javascript';
           s.async = true;
           s.src = '//cdn.viglink.com/api/vglnk.js';
       var r = d.getElementsByTagName(t)[0];
           r.parentNode.insertBefore(s, r);
   }(document, 'script'));
</script>

Anywhere:

Using our Anywhere links on social media and want to track a specific post or campaign to see the revenue it’s generated? You can add “&cuid=yourowncuid” to the end of the links. It should look something like:

https://redirect.viglink.com?key=yourAPIkey&cuid=yourowncuid&u=https://www.merchant.com/shop/jewelry

API:

If you have an app but still want to track specific items or users, you’ll want to use our API to monetize the links. In our documentation, there will be instructions on how to add the “cuid” parameter.
